FigureNest uses the Web Speech synthesis interface exposed by compatible browsers. When you press Play, the page creates a speech request from the text you entered and asks the browser to read it with the selected voice, rate, and pitch. The speech is played through your device’s normal audio output. FigureNest does not need to send the text to a conversion endpoint or wait for an audio file to be rendered on a server.
Available voices come from the browser and operating system. That is why the same page can show a different voice list on Android, Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, or another browser. Some voices are installed on the device, while others may depend on operating-system or browser services. The tool reports what the browser exposes instead of claiming that every visitor has the same voice library.

Speaking rate controls how quickly words are read. A value of 1 is the browser voice’s normal rate, while values below 1 slow it down and values above 1 speed it up. Pitch changes how high or low the generated voice sounds without changing the text itself. Different speech engines interpret rate and pitch somewhat differently, so compare a short sample before using a setting for a long passage.
Pause and Resume use the browser’s speech queue controls. Stop cancels the current speech request immediately. Pressing Play again starts a fresh reading of the current text. The estimated reading time is based on roughly 180 words per minute at rate 1 and scales with the selected rate; it is a planning estimate because punctuation, voice behavior, language, and pronunciation all affect the real duration.

Listening to your own writing can reveal repeated words, missing punctuation, awkward sentence rhythm, and phrases your eyes skim over while editing. Students can use read-aloud playback to review notes or hear short study passages. Language learners can compare the pronunciation supplied by available voices, although browser speech should not be treated as a substitute for a teacher, native speaker, or pronunciation dictionary when exact pronunciation matters.
The tool can also help when you prefer listening to short passages instead of reading them visually. For accessibility-critical workflows, however, a dedicated screen reader is more capable because it understands page structure, landmarks, headings, controls, and navigation. Text to Speech reads the text you provide; it is not intended to replace full assistive technology.
Your text is not uploaded to a FigureNest speech server.
The entered passage remains in the browser page and is passed to the browser’s speech-synthesis interface. FigureNest does not store the passage in a database or submit it to a FigureNest API for speech generation. Standard page, analytics, consent, and advertising requests may still occur according to the site’s privacy choices, but the text itself is not part of the FigureNest calculation or analytics payload.
The browser or operating system controls the voice engine. Depending on the device and selected voice, that underlying platform may use local resources or its own service. FigureNest cannot promise that every third-party operating-system voice is offline, so do not enter confidential text when you do not trust the speech services configured on your device.
Browser speech is useful, but it is not an audio-production studio.
This tool does not generate an MP3 or WAV download because the Web Speech API does not provide a dependable cross-browser audio file output. It also does not clone voices, upload voice samples, translate text, or guarantee a particular pronunciation. Long passages may be interrupted by browser limits, mobile power management, tab suspension, audio focus changes, or device sleep. For critical announcements, accessibility services, commercial narration, or long-form audio production, use software designed for those requirements.
Voice availability and quality are controlled by the browser and operating system. If no voices appear, reload after the device voice service is available or try another current browser. If speech stops after the screen locks or the app moves to the background, keep the page active while listening.

Does FigureNest upload the text I enter?
No. FigureNest passes the text to the browser speech-synthesis interface on your device. The page does not send the entered text to a FigureNest text-to-speech server.
Why are different voices available on different devices?
The Web Speech API exposes voices supplied by the browser and operating system. Voice names, languages, quality, and whether a voice works offline can therefore differ by device and browser.
Can I download an MP3 from this tool?
No. Browser speech synthesis plays speech through the device but does not provide FigureNest with a reliable cross-browser audio file to download. The tool does not pretend to create an MP3 when the browser cannot supply one.
Can I change the reading speed?
Yes. Use the speaking-rate control to slow down or speed up the selected voice. Pitch can also be adjusted within the range exposed by the browser speech engine.
Will speech continue if I lock my phone or close the tab?
Not reliably. Browsers and operating systems can pause or stop speech when a tab is closed, a device sleeps, audio focus changes, or background activity is restricted.
Is this suitable for accessibility-critical reading?
It can be useful for listening and proofreading, but dedicated screen readers provide richer navigation, document structure, keyboard commands, and accessibility features. Use assistive technology designed for that purpose when those capabilities matter.
